ABOUT US
Newton's Journey Songs is an interfaith choir, founded in 2009, committed to singing for people with hospice services and their caregivers, as well as at memorial services and celebrations of life. The group rehearses on Sundays, twice a month, in Newton, and sings in surrounding communities
JourneySongs uses the gift of song to provide soothing comfort to patients and their families.

"Twilight and evening bell, / And after that the dark! / And may there be no sadness of farewell, / When I embark," are just some of the moving lines from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem, "Crossing the Bar." Later set to music, the song is one of many soothing and meaningful works that JourneySongs, an interfaith hospice choir has been performing for the past decade and a half. The a cappella ensemble performs lullabies, chants, rounds, spirituals, hymns, niguns (soothing, wordless melodies), and classical music, choosing songs meaningful to the client and their caregivers.

"It's an honor to be at somebody's bedside" and sing for them, said Kate Mason, a former hospice nurse who co-founded the choir with Cindy Mapes and Nancy Wrenn.

Our gift of song offers a soothing presence to uplift spirits, calm and decrease isolation. The healing power of music and calming presence during life’s transitions can be enjoyed whether in person or virtually. In addition to the possibility of having JourneySongs in person, we offer audio and video recordings, including images of nature synced to our singing. Click "Our Music" at the top right of this page to access recordings of a few of our songs for your enjoyment.

“Dear JourneySongs,
God's timing is perfect. Your gracious band of songbirds came to my mother's bedside when we needed a word - a note - of healing. Your voices and passion shone through every song. I will never hear "Dona Nobis Pacem" the same way again. Thank you and Bless you. “ ~ Krysia B
